The climbing vine gourds stretch as far as possible and produce abundant fruits and numerous seeds; meanwhile, their Chinese name (hulu) sounds similar to fortunate and posterity (fulu) in Chinese. So, gourds are seen as the emblem of longevity and prosperity, benefiting all generations with endless fortune, joy, and happiness.
